How to Protect Yourself from The Coronavirus Attacks
Latest update
WHO update as of 4 February 2020: the coronavirus, which causes respiratory illnesses and pneumonia, has led to the deaths of at least 425 people in China, and one person in the Philippines. The virus is confirmed to have infected over 20,000 others, more than 150 outside China, the majority with mild symptoms. There have been confirmed instances of human-to-human transmission, including in the US, Germany and Japan. Health officials advise that more cases potentially remain unconfirmed or unreported.
Actions to take
- If you have recently returned from a location which has experienced an outbreak, monitor your health for 14 days and consider using flexible working arrangements as a precaution.
- If you develop symptoms, including fever or shortness of breath, you should inform your family.
- Even if you haven’t travelled recently or don’t think you have come into contact with an infected person - if you feel sick, see your local medical provider to confirm.
- You should also remain at home and utilise flexible working arrangements after initial symptoms.
- Take normal health precautions such as washing your hands frequently and carry hand sanitiser for use when soap and water are not readily available.
- Cough/sneeze into your elbow or disposable tissue, not your hands.
